Q: Just wondering when it became OK for cops out they jurisdiction to pull ppl over? This was 5 mins ago at Phillips 66 also known as crystal flash.....aren't there jurisdiction laws????

A: Jurisdictional guidelines are established by state lines due to variances in state laws. Any sworn police officer is obligated to enforce the laws regardless of jurisdiction.

Even if this means stopping the violation and calling for that specific jurisdiction to assist. Jurisdictional guidelines primarily cover routine patrol. For instance in Columbus dispatches a noise complaint, Hope wouldn't respond.

However, if Columbus dispatches an active breach of peace or traffic violation and the Hope officer is close by and the action requires a priority response, he/she are well within their boundaries to assist or take that call.

Now, if a Kentucky trooper was driving through the city in a marked police car, he would likely call the violation in due to him not being a sworn officer in Indiana.

Going one step further; let's say the Kentucky trooper is staying at the clarion inn for training at atterbury and witnesses a drunk driver leaving the parking lot. In that case, he should stop the driver, detain and await CPD or ISP. So summarizing, the Hope police officer is within his boundaries to stop a moving violation while in Columbus.
